The governments of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will receive specially developed rum blends on the occasion of CARICOM’s 50th Anniversary. The idea behind it is to honour the contributions and achievements of the communities in the last 50 years.
The administration of CARICOM member nations will recieve the rum produced by thirteen Rum producers from Caribbean community who are also members of the West Indies Rum and Spirits Producers Association (WIRSPA).
WIRSPA have shared that they are planning to organise the presentation ceremonies for the governments, at the place they are based at during the month of July.
This gesture by the rum industry is part of the year-long ongoing celebration for the 50th Anniversary of CARICOM.
The thirteen distillers that are part of crafting a special rum blend for CARICOM’s half-century celebration are:
- Mount Gay Distilleries (Barbados)
- Demerara Distillers (Guyana)
- Suriname Alcoholic Beverages (Suriname)
- Angostura (Trinidad and Tobago)
- West Indies Rum Distillery (Barbados)
- Saint Lucia Distillers (Saint Lucia)
- Belfast Estate – Dominica (Dominica)
- Antigua Distillery (Antigua)
- Grenada Distillers (Grenada)
- Travellers Liquors (Belize)
- Watlings Distillery (Bahamas)
- National Rums of Jamaica (Jamaica)
- Vincent and the Grenadines Distillers (St. Vincent and the Grenadines)
The Saint Lucia Distillers have become the first WIRSPA member to present the rum blend to CARICOM. Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J. Pierre presented the CARICOM 50th Anniversary Rum Blend from the Saint Lucia Distillers Group to Mohamed Irfaan Alli, President of Guyana and Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The products blended for this historic occasion will be distributed to the government. Some of them will be available in the local markets for selling so that the residents can also savour this special product.
Few of the special edition rums are specifically produced for this purpose and will be available in limited quantities.
