The Caribbean Music Awards 2024 occurred at the famous Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York. It was hosted by the Queen of Dancehall Spice and the King of Caribbean Comedy, Majah Hype, on Thursday to celebrate the *Voices of the Caribbean* across the region. This award show is a pillar of culture, rhythm, and voices for the Caribbean community.
The main highlight of the “Caribbean Music Awards” 2024 was Marcia Griffiths receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award Honor and Cedella Marley receiving a Legacy Award. While accepting the award, Marley said, “I’m truly blessed to continue the legacy that my family built”. She later expressed her sincere gratitude to the committee members and the people of the Caribbean.
Dexta Daps, the artist with the most nominations of the night, was named the best performer in Dancehall. The Jamaican reggae and Dancehall artist set the stage on Euphoria, giving one of his best live performances as he sang tracks like “Shabba Madda Pot” and “Call Me If.”
This year’s nominations list included more than 40 categories in diverse genres, including reggae, Soca, and Dancehall. This year, bouyan music was added as a category, and Dominican artist Coleridge Bell emerged as the winner.
Buju Banton’s album “Born for Greatness” won the Reggae Album of the Year award, making him one of the legendary singers of Reggae. Dancehall queen Shenseea received the title Female Artist of the Year (Dancehall).
Patrice Roberts won Artist of the Year Female (Soca) in the soca category. Meanwhile, Skinny Fabulous won Artist of the Year Male (Soca), expressing the lively energy that drives the genre.
The award show also celebrated rising talent, with Rajah Wild winning Best New Artist (Dancehall) and Yung Bredda winning Best New Artist (Soca).
In the honorary categories, the Impact Awards celebrated artists like 450 for Dancehall and Mortimer for Reggae and their influence over the past year. DJ Puffy was named International DJ of the Year, underscoring the global reach and appeal of Caribbean music.
Byron Messia sets records with two prestigious awards, “Collaboration Of The Year” and “Dancehall Song of the Year” at the Caribbean Music Award 2024. While Asa Bantan took home the “People Choice Award (Powered by Spotify’s Frequency)”.
The awards are given out by the Caribbean Elite Group, which also publishes the Caribbean Elite Magazine, a print and digital newspaper highlighting the Caribbean‘s entertainers, musicians, producers, promoters, cuisine, travel, fashion, and entrepreneurs.
