Grenada: Anderson Peters clinched the bronze medal in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024 by recording a throw of 88.54m in his fourth attempt on Thursday. He won his first-ever medal in the Olympics and increased the tally for Grenada to 2.
The bronze medal marked the Grenada’ 5th Olympic medal and Peters ended his Paris journey with the victory. Defending Olympic champion and gold medalist Neeraj Chopra who the second place and silver medal for India in the finals with a massive throw of 89.45m in his second attempt.
The throw was also considered his season best as in Tokyo Olympics, he won Gold Medal with a throw of 87.58. On the other hand, the first place was won Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem with a world record throw of 92.97 in his second attempt.
With the victory, Peters received the congratulatory messages and greetings from Grenada and the entire Caribbean region. People celebrated the addition of another medal in the Caribbean tally for the Paris Olympics 2024.
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell released the press note congratulating Anderson Peters for securing the bronze medal. He said that the warmest congratulations to him or winning bronze in javelin throw finals and lauded his resilience.
He termed the victory as “historic” and noted that Peters is an incredible talent in javelin event, and he added Olympic bronze medal to his two world championships. PM Mitchell noted,” We celebrate Anderson’s hard work, success and his unwavering commitment to excellence. We look forward to seeing what you will accomplish in the future.”
The medal was the second achievement for Grenada in the game as the first one was won by Lindon Victor in decathlon. He managed to win bronze medal and ended the medal drought for Grenada in Paris Olympics 2024.
However, the star athlete of Grenada- Kirani James failed to win any medal in the final of men’s 400m and finished the race at the fifth position.
