Grenada: The Head coach of the West Indies Daren Sammy spoke up on his recent recent controversial remarks in which he criticized the match officials for making errors in the decisions during the First test match of Australia’s tour of West Indies in Barbados on 29th June 2025.
Daren Sammy in his statements given to the public and the news channels with a confirmative speech told that the match officials admitted to making errors during the first test in Barbados, further mentioning that he has left the issues behind him and he holds no bitterness towards TV umpire Adrian Holdstock.
Adrian Holdstock is all set to stand on the field for the second test match of Australia’s Tour, to which Sammy stated, “I said everything based on what I saw. I’ve been punished for it, I don’t hold any grudges and I wish Adrian all the best.”
As a result of publicly questioning Holdstock’s decisions and criticizing him, Sammy was fined 15% of his match fees and given a demerit point by the ICC particularly referencing his controversial remarks about Roston Chase and Shai Hope.
Sammy made his statements for several consecutive third-umpire calls during the match in Barbados, which included a low catch by Hope that was ruled as not-out and a critical LBW against Chase, Sammy stated that the further discussions with officials led to an admission of some errors, “They clarified a few things… there has been some admission of error. That was Barbados—we’ve moved on.”
The decisions were not only objected to by Sammy, but Australia’s Alex Carry also mentioned that when he pulled off a great diving catch to dismiss Hope from the field, he admitted he feared that the third umpire might also overturn his decision seeing the previous decisions of the Umpires.
Despite the controversy, both the teams are shifting their focus towards the 2nd test to which Sammy responded that they are focused on the Game and not the drama. Mentioning, “We’re all Human. Let’s play Cricket.”
