Guyana: In a recent incident, around 20-22 gunshots were fired at around 9:00 PM on Saturday outside the South Ruimveldt residence of the Public Works Minister, Juan Edghill.
Police Headquarters reported that the incident took place nearly around 8:10 pm, and an unidentified male is being accused of firing gunshots in the air while driving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle along the Sugar Cane Road, South Ruimveldt on Saturday.
It was reported that a social gathering was taking place at the residence of the 69-year-old businessman Richard Austin on that particular night. Several students along with Austin’s son, who recently completed his CSEC Examinations, reportedly of 16 years of age were said to be the part of the gathering.
The investigating authorities mentioned that a 15-year-old female student who was also a part of the gathering and the suspected unidentified male were hugging each other, next to the Mercedes-Benz car (which was reported to be seen driven by the suspect who fired several bullets). The suspect got into the car and drove at speed and left the site.
“As the car was moving, the suspect pointed a handgun through the driver’s side window, discharged several rounds in the air, and continued to drive heading west until the vehicle disappeared”, said the police officials.
Upon the investigation at the firing site, they found nineteen, 9mm spent bullets.
The registration number of the car was not seen or reported by anyone. And after questioning the 15-year-old female student, she refused to identify the suspect. The Authorities are actively investigating the matter and are searching for the suspect and the motor vehicle.
