Belize: A resident of Belmopan has accused two police officers of allegedly robbing him, following a routine stop on June 8th.
Edin Perez aged 34 claimed that he was cycling near Belize Bank when two officers stopped him for allegedly riding against traffic. He was later held and led him behind a building by the police officers.
Perez further mentioned that the two officers then searched him and took his money. He reported the incident after he got to know that a significant amount of money was missing from his pockets. He highlighted that he voluntarily handed over $11 in small notes and coins, however claimed that even more money is missing from the encounter.
Officers were then immediately searched, with nothing found, however later search in one of the officer’s vehicles lead to a discovery of notes and coins matching with what Perez described.
An investigation is currently taking place in response to the incident; however, no decision or action has yet been taken against the officials.
