Bahamas: As the four Caribbean countries have been slammed by Hurricane Beryl at the beginning of this month. In light of this the Bahamas government has announced to donate up to $600K to all the affected fellow nations to assist them.
The donation was announced by the Disaster Risk Management Authority, they shared that the government in processing the monetary donation for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Jamaica and Barbados.
DRM Managing Director Aaron Sergeant said that “the financial aid could be up to $600,000, we are looking to provide $100,000 to $150,000 per effective member state.”
He further said we should all sit together and decide on what to do and how to do. Already the Bahamas has sent 600 cases of required material to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.
Sharing the details, the MD Sergeant stated that the affected countries will receive the funds in the upcoming days.
Also, Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit has also announced $1 Million monetary help to the regions fighting with the devastating after effects of Hurricane Beryl.
Several regions are still without electricity, people have lost their livelihoods, Grenada have lost crops they were cultivating for the season. Barbados have been removing the damaged debris and boats.
Also, CARICOM ministers and OECS heads have been visiting the affected islands to evaluate the damage that has been caused by then category-4 storm.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of Dominica Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit and Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J. Pierre last week visited Grenada and evaluated the damage and provided the country with help packages and also relief efforts.
Also, the Leaders of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Grenada and Premier of the Cayman Islands visited St. Vincent and the Grenadines and interacted with the locals and Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves.
