The Government of St Kitts and Nevis honoured 11 distinguished nationals with ‘The Companion of the Star of Merit’ for their long and meritorious services for the development of the country.
These nationals were recognized and conferred during an Investiture Ceremony held at the Government House on Wednesday, 27th November, 2024.
Shedding light on the acknowledgement, the authorities said that these awards are presented to those people who have devoted their services for the development and advancement of St Kitts and Nevis.
The awards were presented to the awardees by the Governor General, Dame Marcella Liburd. Along with that, the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, his wife, Diani Jimesha Prince Drew, Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley and others were also present during the ceremony to share in their celebration of these outstanding nationals.
The awardees of the Companion of the Star of Merit were
- Conrad Kelly for Agriculture
- David Huggins for Business Entrepreneurship
- Desmond Hobson Tyson Sr. for Community Service and Activism
- Edrice Lewis-Viechweg for Education (Designer of National Flag)
- Elsie Liburd-Brandy for Education
- Hanzel Manners for Banking and Community Development
- Oliver Spencer for Fishing Industry
- Orville ‘Sailor’ Thompson for Sports
- Pearletta Lanns for Law Enforcement
- Rosalyn Hazelle for Women’s Empowerment
- Rupert Herbert for Education and Public Service
PM Terrance Drew took to his official Facebook account and congratulated all these awardees. He thanked them for their outstanding contributions to the development of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. He added that the life works of these individuals are examples for them all to emulate.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the following distinguished nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis who were honored yesterday with The Companion of the Star of Merit – For long and meritorious service, or for loyal and devoted service to the Nation,” said PM Terrance Drew.
Along with that, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis also awarded five other nationals with the Medal of Honour. These honourees were awarded on Thursday, 28th November 2024 for their dedication to service and nation building.
The Medal of Honour was bestowed upon
- Allison Rouse for her years of contribution to Law Enforcement
- Jasmin ‘Jazzy D’ Clarke-Thomas for contribution to Broadcasting
- Orvis Mills in the field of Early Childhood Education and Community Activism
- Patricia Richards-Leader for Pioneering Business
- Viola Manning for her invaluable service in Nursing.
These awards were also presented by the Governor General, Dame Marcella Liburd.
