St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival Committee has released the 2023 – 2024 Sugar Mas 53 calendar of events and proudly launches into presenting the 53rd National Carnival. The slogan for this year’s carnival is “There is only one place to be – Sugar Mas 53.”
The carnival committee gave a glimpse of the official updated calendar through their social media accounts. The updated calendar includes all official events as well as the Fringe Events. Over fifty events will happen in thirty days.
According to Minister Duggins, 11,000 people this year have been brought to the beautiful shores of St Kitts and Nevis for carnival, and this was expected to surpass last year. The National Carnival Committee Chair, Shannon Hawley, gave some insight on the registration of stakeholders for Sugar Mas 53.
The events will kick off, with the first event taking place on Sunday, November 17th. From there, other big events, such as the Power Soca Elimination, will happen on Friday, November 22nd- 23rd. Groovy Soca Elimination is set to be held on Saturday, November 30th- December 1st. At the same time, the Senior Calypso Elimination is slated for November 29th and 30th.
In December, there will be some more holiday festivities showcasing a wonderful combination of music, dance, and joy. On Saturday, December 14th, the Soca Monarch Finals will officially signal the start of carnival celebrations on the island with “the “Festival of Lights.”
Some other big events, like the Senior Calypso Monarch Semis, will be held on Sunday, the 15th, the Miss Teen St. Kitts and Nevis Pageant on Tuesday, the 17th, and Miss St. Kitts and Nevis on Thursday, the 19th.
Closest to New Year, the festivities between December 24th and January 3rd are marked by the legendary In De Circus. It is followed by one of the most anticipated uptown street parties and parades, J’ouvertJ’ouvert, on Thursday, December 26th. The National Junior Carnival Parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 28th.
Following up with Panorama (steel pan competition) on Sunday, December 29th, and the Grand Carnival Parade on Wednesday, January 1st. The Last Lap Jam will take place on Friday, January 3rd as well and Ultra: Whine and Chill on Saturday, January 4th, will bring it all to an end Sugar Mas Style.
The St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival Committee released the official calendar for celebratory events three months ago to keep that festive season feeling. The authorities also made public new Sugar Mas merchandise like T-shirts, mugs, flags, and rugs to advertise the event. These can be purchased at the Carnival Office on Cayon Street, between the Gas Station and Cindy’s.
Additionally, the island nation introduced six ambassadors for the 2024-2025 Miss St Kitts and Nevis Queen Pageant during an event on Tuesday. The elected ambassadors are Jutambien Kelly, Vanessa Simon, Danieka Dickenson, Tyanna Richards, Tonia Manners, and Mikaya Collins.
