Calypso has been originated from the Caribbean region and known for its witty, sarcastic lyrics and rhythmic beats. This music has developed as a medium for oppressed and was used to promote social issues. Over time, it evolved into a beloved music genre in the Caribbean region, especially in Trinidad and Tobago. Also known as Short Shirt, Sir McLean Emanuel’s home in Antigua. In the genre of calypso, he is the most well-known performer of all time. Short Shirt rose to fame in the 1960s and has many Calypso Monarch titles in Antigua. His lyrics became famous for challenging issues like corruption, inequality, and justice. Some of his most famous songs are “Lamentation” and “Power and Authority”. The combination of activism and entertainment in Shirt’s songs has given him a place as an outstanding figure in calypso music history.
Robert “Lord” Nelson, also known as “Soca Daddy,” is one of the biggest Calypso stars from Trinidad & Tobago. He promoted soca, a rapid-paced rhymic music. Amongst which his famous tracks like “It” and “Meh Lover received a great deal of love from the people. “His specific style is merging genres, for example, humor with social satire. Lord Nelson’s has contributed to the development of Calypso and soca have marked his legacy as one of the greatest in the Caribbean Music Industry.
Sylvester Lockhart, popularly known as Poser, is a Trinidad and Tobago calypso veteran. He is indeed famous for the timeless hits such as “Ah Tell She”. His songs are light-hearted, funny, and both liked by people. Poser talks about life in general and relationships which people of all ages can relate and enjoy. Poser has carved out a unique and permanent place within the Calypso community.
