St Kitts and Nevis: A 90-day campaign has officially been launched in St Kitts and Nevis against crime and violence on Saturday. The campaign is aimed at enhancing the citizen security agenda and reducing the crime cases in the country.
The campaign was launched by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew who called it a platform to broaden the security sphere and landscape of the twin-island Federation. He noted that the initiative has been launched to protect and preserve the precious lives of the country.
The national consultation as part of the campaign was staged by the government of St Kitts and Nevis at the CUNA conference room. The event was attended by representatives of political parties, sports associations, church and religious institutions, private sector businesses, law enforcement, social clubs and other community-based organizations.
The event addressed one of the most pressing issues as the communities come together to tackling crime and violence in St Kitts and Nevis. PM Drew outlined the significance of the productive collaboration between the communities and the organizations to fight against the crime situation.
He said that it is a collective fight of the organizations that transcends politics and emphasized the holistic approach to solve the crime problems of St Kitts and Nevis. He also announced that the government is planning to create an inter-ministerial secretariat that will engage with a wider section of society.
The campaign will feature engagement between the communities, outline ways of addressing criminal situation, reactive measures taken only during spikes in violent incidents, and implementation of several sustainable and policies that will enhance the security measures.
Prime Minister Dr Drew urged the citizens to join their hands to fight against crime and stressed the importance of making citizen security the top priority. He noted that there is a need for collective efforts that could ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
The series of activities will be held in the campaign including the involvement of every sector of society in addressing crime.
