LIAT 2020 Limited announced the new flight services starting at a fare price of US$99 plus tax. These are direct flights that connect Dominica to Antigua and Barbuda and St. Lucia. This is a turn of development for taking regional air connectivity in the Caribbean a notch higher, while passengers will enjoy ease in exploring stunning landscapes and rich culture in Dominica.

The airline has restarted their operations, which came to a close back in 2020 when LIAT 1974 Limited ran into some financial problems because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Having obtained an AOC – Air Operator’s Certificate from the ECCAA – Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority in June 2024, LIAT 2020 is finally prepared to launch its services.

The inauguration included the first flight, which took off for St. Lucia from Antigua at 11:30 AM on August 6, 2024. A short inaugural ceremony was held for the occasion, that was graced by Prime Minister Gaston Browne, showcasing the cooperation between the government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Nigerian airline company, Air Peace – that has invested a lot into LIAT 2020. The first inaugural flight to Dominica should touch down at the Douglas Charles Airport on August 29, 2024.

LIAT 2020 flights will journey directly from Antigua to Dominica, while the airline has also announced its routes that link Antigua, Barbados, and St. Lucia. Return flights would travel from Antigua to St. Lucia and then from St. Lucia back to Barbados.

Aircraft 301 and 302 will fly directly, at different arrival and departure times. At the moment, the airline is operating with a fleet of seven aircraft, while planning its further extension toward more Caribbean destinations and into the North American market. It will continue to expand its network and increase its impact on making travel in the Caribbean region easier and cheaper.

Starting in September, LIAT 2020 will be flying to more Caribbean islands. The airline plans to add five new destinations: Barbados, Grenada, Dominica, St. Kitts & Nevis, and Antigua.

Chief Executive Officer Hafsaf Abdulsalam indicated that they are also going to introduce 11 more destinations that include Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana, while looking at Panama, Miami, Puerto Rico, and the British Virgin Islands. They also announced the introduction of new E2 195 aircraft to meet the growing demand.

These newest direct flights into Dominica are expected to further connect the tourism product of Dominica to the new LIAT 2020. With LIAT 2020 set to have a relaunch this June, the Caribbean region is about to get improved regional air connectivity, create jobs, wider tourism frontiers, and closer economic ties.
