West Indies: Shamar Joseph from West Indies recorded the five-wicket haul in the first day of the second test match of the home series against South Africa on Thursday. He marked his third five-wicket haul in his fifth test match for the cricket team.
The second test match of the series was kickstarted on Thursday at the National Cricket Stadium of Guyana and the match will run through August 19, 2024. Shamar Joseph played 14 overs and recorded 4 maiden overs while getting no runs. In all these overs, he gave only 33 runs and get five wickets in return, making South Africa to end their inning in short span of time.
With this achievement, he became the second player from West Indies to take five wickets at Guyana National Stadium.
On the first day of the test match, West Indies made South Africa score only 160 runs in 54 overs and get their 10 wickets. After scoring wickets, Shamar Joseph expressed delight and lauded his team for their support.
He said,” I don’t think you can do anything without a team behind your back, it is an excellent feeling, I am home, and I am happy and proud to do in front of my own crowd.”
Joseph added that it gives him a lot of confidence for playing in front of their own people and lauded the appreciation he received from his people.
West Indies and South Africa has been playing in a friendly cricket match in two formats including test series and T20 formats. The first test match was held from August 7 to 11, 2024 which has been concluded with a draw as 96 runs from Alick Athanaze have made his team escape the defeat.
After this, South Africa and West Indies will play the T20 matches on August 23, 25 and 27, 2024 at Brian Lara Cricket Ground, Trinidad and Tobago. Notably, West Indies have been struggling in the test format after securing massive defeat from England in the series at their home place. In three match series, West Indies did not manage to win any of the matches.
