Jamaica: Elaine Thompson Herah, a Jamaican track and field athlete and five-time Olympic gold medallist, will not be able to defend her titles at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games. This decision of withdrawal from game was taken due to the injury.

The Double Olympic female champion has shared her decision regarding not participating in the Paris Games in August on her social media accounts.

Explaining the situation, she posted an Instagram Post, that stated, “it’s never fun sharing news like this.” Further, she added that she had a realization during the race, “something is really wrong.”

Afterward, she sat on the ground, as she could not put any pressure on her leg. She went straight to get the medical check-up done, and the reports revealed that she had a tear on her Achilles tendon.

After she went back home, she kept pushing herself and preparing for the national trails with a strong mindset, but failed due to her leg.

Andi Sports, her management team, also revealed yesterday night about her injury while she was there to participate in the preliminary round of the women’s 100 meters.

The team stated, “Thompson-Herah will be unable to defend her sprint titles at the Olympic Games due to injury.” Further, the team informed that Herah is grateful and has extended thanks to her sponsors and fans for the love and support they have showered upon her during this challenging time she is undergoing.

Earlier also, Thompson-Herah suffered from the similar injury after her spectacular sprint double at the 2016 Rio Olympics. After that she missed out on medals at the 2017 and 2019 world championships.

Thompson-Herah said that even if she will not be participating, she would be cheering on her fellow countrymen in Paris on site.

The player also made it clear that she was not giving up on her sprint career.

The upcoming track competition at the Paris Olympics is scheduled from August 1-11 at the Stade de France.
