West Indies: Alick Athanaze scored 92 runs and saved the West Indies Cricket Team last weekend against South Africa in the first match of the test series. His innings led the team to a draw on Day 5 of the match at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
The match was held from August 7 to 11, 2024 at 4 pm as part of the first match of the test series as South Africa team visited the West Indies for the cricket tour. Dominican cricketer Athanaze fell shot for his century, but his innings made the team end the match with equal scores.
Now, the second test match of the series will kick off on August 15 and will run through August 19, 2024 at the National Cricket Stadium of Guyana. The tickets for the series are available on the official website of Windies cricket and people are asked to visit for the cricket match.
South Africa visited West Indies for friendly series of cricket matches in two formats including tests and the T20 matches. Three matches of the series will be held in Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad on August 23, 25 and 27, 2024.
The excitement among cricket lovers have been buzzed due to the field rivalry between the two teams as in the recently held T20 Cricket World Cup West Indies and South Africa came face to face in the knockout match of the group stage.
In the knockout match, South Africa defeated West Indies and barred them to reach the semi-finals of the Cricket T20 World Cup 2024. Due to this, the dreams of becoming the champions of T20 trophy were shattered and the world cup was won by Team India.
In the test series, the cricket West Indies gave the cricketers that included Kraigg Brathwaite (Captain), Joshua Da Silva (Vice-Captain), Alick Athanaze, Keacy Carty, Bryan Charles, Justin Greaves, Jason Holder, Kavem Hodge, Tevin Imlach, Shamar Joseph, Mikyle Louis, Gudakesh Motie, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales and Jomel Warrican.
Recently, West Indies visited England for the cricket tour in the test series and the lost three of the test matches against the Britian. The series was won by England, however, Alick Athanaze performed well in the series and made his maiden test century at the international platform.
West Indies cricket team have also been ranked on the last position in the ICC World Ranking of the Test Cricket Format, where the veteran cricketers have raised their concerns about the situation of the team.
