Perry Christie, Former Prime Minister of the Bahamas, has been admitted to Doctor’s Hospital as he suffered from symptoms of an acute heart condition.
The reports suggest that he is successfully undergoing a corrective procedure and is recovering.
Latrae Rahming, Director of Communications in the Office of The Prime Minister issued statement that stated Christie underwent the heart procedure last Saturday.
It is to be noted that the procedure was performed by Dr Bimal Francis, an interventional cardiologist, and his team, intensivist Dr Adrian Cargill, and cardiovascular surgeon Dr Duane Sands.
Rahming said that Christie is recovering well. He further shared that he is ‘awake, alert, and in a good mood.’ However, Christie is expected to stay in the hospital for a few more days to continue his recovery.
Christie is part of the Eminent Persons Group, which was set up by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Significantly, this group provides important support in key areas such as security, governance, and elections.
Additionally, they also work on long-term development planning and advocacy, particularly in Haiti. They help ensure that these areas are managed effectively and sustainably.
It is to be noted that the group, which includes former St Lucia Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony and former Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding, works with important international partners and agencies.
They all together communicate and collaborate with these organizations to achieve their goals in areas like security, governance, elections, and development planning in Haiti.
