Basseterre, St. Kitts: Even though Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew is on personal leave, as the tropical system continues to develop in the Atlantic, he convened an urgent zoom meeting with the government officials to evaluate the situation and ensure that the country is safe, as St. Kitts and Nevis is under the potential threat.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the plan to ensure comprehensive preparedness and that all the measures were in place.

The meeting was conducted yesterday, and was led by Abdias Samuel, National Disaster Coordinator and he also shared an in-depth update with PM Drew on the current status of the weather system.

He further highlighted the potential impact that the weather can have on the Federation and also shared a detailed plan of preparation for actions that are currently being executed under the National Disaster Management Framework.

Following this, the authorities reveal that these actions have been designed to safeguard the population of the island and minimize any disturbances that may arise from the development of the system.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Drew had a conversation with all the attendees and appreciated the dedication to prioritizing the preparation and response activities for the potential weather threat.

PM Drew stated that the safety of the residents is administration’s highest priority at the moment. He further commended all the authorities involved in safety measures. He also urged the residents to stay safe and take the necessary precautions as they are all working on, to monitor the development of the tropical system.

It is to be noted that currently Dr. Terrance Drew is on personal leave, still he is in touch with everyone and keeping an eye on the updates. In his absence Dr. Geoffrey Hanley is acting Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Geoffrey Hanley; Glenroy Blanchette Permanent Secretary of National Security and Claricia Langley-Stevens, Chair of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Board.

All the officials present in the meeting confirmed their commitment to supporting the ongoing efforts to ensure the country’s willingness in the face of this possible threat.

Significantly, the government of St. Kitts and Nevis has advised all the residents to follow official channels, keep up with the updates, and follow all the guidance provided by NEMA.
