Bahamas: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Bahamas amid the heavy rainfall and lightning on Tuesday. As per the met department, the showers and thunderstorms are associated with the mid-level troughing across the area.
Some of these showers will be locally heavy and thunderstorms due to the strong to severe gusty winds, dangerous lightning and heavy downpours. The possible waterspout or Tornadic activity will lead to the heavy rainfall and flooding in some parts of the Bahamas.
The boaters in the areas should seek a safe harbour and the residents are asked to remain cautious about the weather conditions. The flooding conditions will pose a threat to the low-lying and flood-prone areas where the waterspout activities will be held due to the heavy rainfall and other disturbing conditions.
Residents in the warning areas should remain indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. They should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conditions.
The sky conditions are likely to remain cloudy with isolated to widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the Northern and Central Bahamas. The weather is also expected to remain partly sunny, hot and breezy in Southeast Bahamas with isolated showers.
There are chances of showers in the Northern and Northwest Bahamas with the less chances of showers across the Central and Southeast Bahamas. The conditions are likely to remain variably cloudy, hot and humid with isolated showers or thunderstorms across the Northern and Northwest Bahamas.
The severe weather forecast is in effect for the West End to Freeport, Grand Bahamas, Western New Providence and their adjacent waters. Localized flooding is also possible during the passage of these storms.
The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season is underway in the Caribbean and will run through November 30, 2024. A total of two hurricanes including Beryl and Ernesto have caused trouble for the countries including Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines and the Bahamas.
