The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports announced the 12-member squad that will be representing Saint Lucia in the upcoming Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) International Netball Series scheduled to be held in Saint Lucia in September 2024.
This series will be taking place in Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility between September 20-30. It is expected that a total of seven overseas teams will be competing against each other in this event. Saint Lucia’s senior squad of netball is seen practicing harder than before to overtake their previous position of 4th in the netball series, which was then held in Antigua and Barbuda.
The head coach of Saint Lucia’s Netball Squad has given a statement in his previous interview, where he mentioned that all the players are working day and night with full dedication and power to compete in the upcoming series. Some of the players are from the Under 21 programs who are keen to participate in the series and win the title of Netball series.
The squad consists of a total of 12 players. To name a few, there is Safia Paul (Captain), Melika Destang (Vice Captain), Siana Emmanuel, Lizzy Dorvius, Melissa Alfred, Hailie Alexander (debutant), Saphia Williams, Semaj Marguerite, Dasha Eugene, Shem Maxwell, Sanya Antoine and Jermia Martial. Their technical staff consists of Connie Francis (Head Coach) and Donnalyn Joseph (Assistant Coach).
The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports also announced on their official page that Saint Lucia is overwhelmed to welcome all the teams from overseas and looks forward to seeing the squad playing their best on the field. The squad will have a car wash event to raise funds to host the netball event in Saint Lucia.
According to some official sources, The Saint Lucia netball team is ranked as the 5th highest in the Americas netball region. In the upcoming event, various national teams are expected to compete, including those that have had a great record in the past of victory. One such team is the ‘Vincy Jewels,’ which is a Senior National Female Team.
Saint Lucia will be opening its campaign against Montserrat on Monday, 23 September 2024, from 3 PM onwards. The event preparation is in full swing, according to the head coach of Saint Lucia’s Netball Squad. It is expected that there will be great competition on the field in the upcoming event, where many strong players will be seen competing against each other.
