In this episode of the Thomas Clatterbuck Show, we interview Dr. David Gill. Gill is one of the Democrats running in the 13th Congressional District. The 13th covers most of Springfield, and is currently held by Rep. Rodney Davis, a Republican.

Although healthcare is a major issue for Gill, climate change is his number one issue. He discusses what he sees as the threat from climate change, and the steps we need to combat it. We also find out which technologies will make up his green energy portfolio of the future.

Gill strongly supports expanding government healthcare and a single-payer system. He shares stories from his own practice about the risks that people without insurance face, and his disgust at the high pay for upper management in the the health insurance industry.

In this episode of the Thomas Clatterbuck Show, we had congressional candidate Junius Rodriguez. Rodriguez is the Democratic challenger in the 18th Congressional District.

Rodriguez has held numerous town hall events this season. The feedback from these events drove much of our discussion. One of the major themes from these events was access to healthcare, especially in rural areas. In addition to costs, just keeping hospitals open in smaller communities is a serious concern. Rodriguez talked about how rollbacks in Medicare and Medicaid funding have restricted access to healthcare in the district.

Rodriguez is a college professor at Eureka College, and we spoke about the student loan crisis. He explained how easy access to loans from the government allowed colleges to expand “creature comforts” and other expenses. To help remedy the situation, he proposed various loan forgiveness programs based on public service.

Finally, we discussed the unpleasant issue of human trafficking. Rodriguez’s area of study is slavery, both historical and contemporary. He was able to explain the factors that drive trafficking, and some of what can be done to stop it.

We also touched on a number of other issues, including net neutrality, climate change, and tariffs. You can watch the full interview in the player.

Today on the Thomas Clatterbuck Show we had Congressman Rodney Davis (R-13). Davis is the Republican Congressman from the 13th district, and is seeking his fourth term in Congress.

Farming issues were a large portion of our discussion. Davis serves on the House Agriculture committee, and has been very involved in the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bills. The Farm Bill is critical to both farmers and to SNAP recipients. Davis highlighted the good work that the bill has done, but was disturbed by how politics has delayed passing the 2018 version.

We also discussed technology issues. While Davis is not worried about the loss of Net Neutrality, he said giving up control of ICANN was a mistake. For Davis, the government’s job is to help with the “last mile” of networks to ensure rural communities have access to the web, and to protect free speech.

We touched on a number of other issues as well, including  the student loan crisis, Trump’s Space Force, and the trade war with China. You can watch our full interview in the player.

Betsy Dirksen Londrigan was the first repeat guest on the Thomas Clatterbuck show this morning. Londrigan is the Democratic challenger in the 13th congressional district, having won her crowded primary back in March. Despite losing their primary, the other candidates in that primary have rallied behind Londrigan in the general election.

Londrigan has held numerous town hall and community roundtable events this season. The feedback from these events drove much of our discussion. The 2018 tax reform bill as well as immigration enforcement were two of the major issues Londrigan has encountered at these meetings. She said that while there were some tokens to the middle class in the tax bill, it gave away far too much to the wealthy. It also created a much larger deficit. Londrigan also raised issues with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, better known as ICE. However, she called on ICE to be heavily reformed, not abolished.

We touched on a number of other issues as well, including healthcare, the student loan crisis, and the trade war with China. You can watch our full interview in the player.
