The consumption of organic food has stagnated in Spain, according to a set of studies by the consulting firm Kantar presented during the 4 Universitat d’Estiu de Mercabarna, the wholesale market reported in a statement this Thursday.
For its part, the purchase of premium products has grown by 10% between 2014 and 2021 , especially those of proximity, although three out of four consumers do not consume them.
The surveys carried out reveal that 63.1% of Spaniards want to take care of themselves through the practice of sport or by improving their diet , while 15.2% want to do so “but cannot” and 21.7% do not want to take care.
The Universitat d’Estiu also brought to the table the main factors to guarantee a healthy diet throughout the world, such as the need to intervene in food supply chains to reduce the cost of nutritious foods .
On the other hand, the Mediterranean diet has been claimed as the healthiest and the need to have a balanced diet to avoid the risk of disease.
Despite the curb on organic food, Mercabana launched the first organic food wholesale market in Spain this Thursday and also the first in Europe in terms of concentration of fruit and vegetable companies. This market, which has involved an investment of 5 million euros, was born to respond to the demand in Catalonia for these products.
