UPDATE | From our morning story released on our social media pages, regarding the heightened security/ viral threat at our local Springfield High School (Illinois).

A 17-year-old girl from Springfield High School, in Ohio has been arrested on a felony charge of inducing panic after authorities say she created a fake Facebook account and posted a threat that went viral, reaching all the way to Illinois and our own local “SHS” high school.

In an update Thursday afternoon with authorities, police say the threat was noticed Wednesday afternoon and an investigation began immediately. The now viral Facebook post threatened a shooting at “SHS,” prompting local schools to send out alerts to parents and students. Springfield High School located in Springfield, IL also added heightened security announcements, in response to a cross-state viral internet threat.

Authorities say they contacted Facebook to find out where the post originated from, since it didn’t name a specific school, and was a general threat.

The account from a “Ray Andres” which seemed anonymous. Authorities say, Facebook then pinpointed the two possible locations on where the threat may have come from. One was in eastern Kentucky, the other in Springfield, Ohio on Tibets Avenue. Local police, deputies, and the FBI were all involved in this situation.
