Caribbean: An inaugural flight of Caribbean Airlines landed at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM), Suriname from Georgetown, Guyana, on Sunday. The airline is scheduled to operate six flights per week from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, connecting three island nations of the Caribbean.

Among the six flights, four flights of the airline will be operated directly between Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname and the remaining two will be operated between these islands via Guyana.

With a welcome ceremony, the citizens and the government officials of the country celebrated the commencement of new flight service, offering new air connectivity within the region. The flights will be operated to Suriname where passengers will be provided with two extra weekly services from Trinidad through OGL Airport in Guyana and vice versa.

The flight will start its operation from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and then arrive at PBM, Suriname on Tuesdays and Fridays. The aircraft BE8M with B737-8M will be used by the airline to provide service on the route. The return service will be provided on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Suriname to Trinidad and Tobago with the use of B38M aircraft or sometimes B737-8M.

The flight will again start its operation from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and then land at Suriname via Argyle International Airport, Guyana on Fridays and Sundays. The return flight will operate from Suriname to Trinidad via Guyana on the same dates. The service will be operated with the use of the aircraft AT76, which is also known as ATR72-600.

The service was kickstarted in the presence of several officials of Caribbean Airlines and the tourism authority. The announcement of the flight was made by the airline on October 18, 2024, under their “Welcome Home” campaign as the service has come into effect on Sunday. The non-stop service has opened new doors of connection between the three island nations of the Caribbean region.
