Georgetown : Providing the much needed relief to the pensioners and public servants of the country the Guyana government is all set to roll out the much hyped one time cash grant under which eligible citizens will start receiving $πππ,πππ from Monday onwards.
In a social media announcement, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, revealed that the grants will be distributed at the National Insurance Scheme offices across Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, and Ten.
The announcement for this cash grant was made by the Guyana Government in the month of October and the registration process for the same had been started in the last week of November. The eligible citizens were to register for this grant in the first week of December, this year.
As a part of the government’s plan to provide the much needed financial relief to the citizens, the national assembly has so far approved a budget of $30.5 billion. These funds are being used to distribute the cash grant to eligible citizens.
As per the figures released by the government this cash grant is going to put an additional burden of over $60 billion on the government treasury, but this was being considered essential by the government as the cash grant will help the citizens tide over the financial burden.
The announcement to disburse the one-time cash grant to the pensioners and public servants was made by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali in a media interview last month.
The government had introduced a software-based registration program under which details of all eligible pensioners and public servants were collected.
The president said the cash grant will be in addition to the salary increase of the public servants and will have no impact on their increments.
The president had also said that the government wanted to give more benefits to the public servants and the citizens adding that the cash grant was a separate benefit that was being given to the public servants and citizens.
It is to be mentioned that many Guyanese citizens were facing several financial constraints due to the rising prices of essential commodities across the globe. And in order to provide relief to the citizens, the government has decided to disburse a one-time cash grant to eligible citizens.
The government has decided to give the cash grant to all citizens of the country who are above the age of 18 and hold a valid identification card. But to become eligible for grant one must be residing in Guyana as those living abroad will not be considered under this government scheme.
Meanwhile, Dr Ashni Singh, said that those who might not be able to receive the cash grant on Monday must not be dejected as the government has ensured that the benefits will reach them in their villages.
The eligible citizens were required to register once for this cash grant which had been announced in the month of October, 2024.
This cash grant will first be provided to the pensioners and the public servants followed by other members of the society.
