The first China-Latin America and Caribbean Development Forum took place in Beijing, China. This Forum started on 12 September 2024 and consisted of representatives from various Latin American countries and various international organizations. It focused on different regional issues, such as enhancing cooperation through academic exchanges on trade, investment, innovation, and global governance.
Grenada made its presence in the Forum, where it had a valuable exchange of knowledge. It was also introduced to some best practices and strategies that will improve its efforts at sustainable development. This will make a better way to address climate change issues, and advance green energy solutions. All these will together contribute to strengthening the country’s efforts at climate resilience, energy security, and environmental protection.
Mr. Lennox Andrews, Minister for Economic Development, Planning, Agriculture, and Lands, represented Grenada on a large scale and talked about various important issues of the country.
Gao Xiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, also highlighted that this year marks a decade of China-Latin America partnership. He also stated that they are looking forward to significant progress and new opportunities for collaboration.
Klemes Endara, Permanent Secretary of the Latin-America Economic System, focused on the importance of diversifying bilateral relations and working together in many areas. Some of the important sectors consist of e-commerce, the digital economy, and climate change. All these are of high importance and will contribute to strengthening the ties of the China-Latin America Partnership,
Qiu Xiaoqi, China’s Special Representative for Latin American Affairs, spoke about the Belt and Road initiative’s role in maintaining the development strategies between China and the region. He also talked about the constant research and cooperation to enhance the strong bond between industrial and counter-protectionism.
Apart from that, major academic contributions will improve Grenada’s institutions and professional teaching methods. This will also provide them with knowledge regarding innovations and modernization. These major partnerships will also help in improving various sectors such as education, infrastructure, and governance.
Grenada will take the lead in addressing some really crucial drawbacks the country is facing at the moment. Academic tools will also be a great help in handling the country’s developmental challenges. The Forum has not only strengthened the China-Latin America ties but has also provided Grenada with a better shape than before.
