CDC warns about salmonella risk from pre-cut melon

The CDC has issued a recall warning for several kinds of pre-cut melon products in sold Illinois. Based on an announcement from Caito Foods, LLC, consumers are being told not to consume the following products:

  • watermelon
  • honeydew melon
  • cantaloupe
  • fresh-cut fruit medley products

These products were sold in plastic clamshell packaging at numerous retailers including:

  •  Costco
  • Jay C
  • Kroger
  • Payless
  • Owen’s
  • Sprouts
  • Trader Joe’s
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
  • Whole Foods/Amazon

If you have any of these items, do not consume them. Throw them away, or return them to the store for a refund. Do not eat them.

Contact a healthcare provider if you think you got sick from consuming pre-cut melon.

Most people infected with Salmonella develop the following signs and symptoms 12-72 hours after being exposed to the bacteria:

  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Abdominal cramps

Bookstock coming back to Jacksonville for its third year

The Jacksonville Public Library will be hosting its third annual Bookstock concert this weekend, September 22nd. Melanie Devaney, Chad Elliott, and Ben Bedford will be performing during the afternoon. There will also be a children’s concert in the morning with Kevin Farris, Duke Otherwise, and Mike Lockett. Bookstock will also include a craft market for children this year. In addition to selling items, kids can learn about running their own businesses.

These concerts are free to the public, and are part of the Friends of the Library Book Sale. This is one of their major fundraisers. That sale will be going on all day.

Springfield Police’s “Bridging the Gap” BBQ this weekend

Springfield communities host National Night Out events

PRESS RELEASE | In partnership with the Springfield Police Department and city officials, neighborhood associations across Springfield will be hosting events on Tuesday, August 7 in celebration of National Night Out.  This annual event encourages neighborhoods across the nation to spend the evening outside with neighbors, police and community leaders. It is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

Neighborhood associations across Springfield will host a variety of family-friendly events. These events are free to the public and residents are encouraged to participate. It is an opportunity to explore Springfield and meet residents throughout the community.
