Addison James represented Dominica in the World Athletics U20 Championships which is being held in Lima, Peru. James was accompanied by his coach Godwin Dorsette to compete in the Men’s Javelin on August 27th at 5:20 PM.
At present, Addison James ranks #6 position in the under-20 boys’ javelin throw. He won the silver medal in the 2022 CARIFTA Games boys’ U17 javelin throw, with a historic performance of 50.17 meters, the first ever in this event for Dominica.
At the 2023 CARIFTA Games, James won a historical gold medal-the first-ever gold by Dominica in the U17 javelin throw. Later in 2024, James had taken a bronze medal during the CARIFTA Games Under-20 Boys’ Javelin Throw, in which he managed to record his personal best of 65.50m and hence set a new national record.
Apart from this, he participated in the Discus Throw 1.5 kg after setting another personal best of 41.70 meters, finishing fifth on 7th August 2023. This speaks volumes not only of his development in athletics but also about his versatility, proving himself to dominate in other throwing disciplines. Each performance resulted from his struggle and dedication, shining a bright reflection on his commitment to self-improvement and willingness to push himself beyond.
Addison James is now all set to represent and take part in the World Athletics U20 Championships, a biennial international athletics competition organized by World Athletics. The competition includes the best under-20 athletes in the world.
The DAAA has been supporting James and also urges Dominicans to stand behind their athlete in representing the nation on the global platform. This is a personal victory and one of immense pride for Dominica. His participation epitomizes the talent the island grooms and points toward the hard work of young athletes pushing their limits to excel.
James is ready to show the world why Dominica boasts some of the world’s best athletes and is prepared to make his nation proud in this prestigious event. So far, he has been able to inspire upcoming athletes and will only continue raising the status of Dominica in international athletics with his continued success.
